TALKING TO GOD. MOMENTS OF PRAYER IN SCRIPTURE

The Bible is the “Word of God”, normally understood as what God tells, promises, commands and reveals (to) his people, and to all people.

But in the Bible, there are also numerous occasions where people speak to God, specifically where they address God in prayer.

As one element of our parish focus on prayer, I invite you to a series of study evenings entitled Talking to God. Moments of Prayer in Scripture

This weekly Bible study will be held on Mondays, 7 - 9 p.m., in the parish hall, starting on September 17.

We will look at texts from various parts of the Bible: Exodus, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, Gospels and Apocalypse.

The book of Psalms will occupy a special place.

Registration for this event is now closed.

St. George’s Anniversary

St. George's Church was originally blessed on September 21,1924, and solemnly consecrated on October 8, 1998. Therefore, we are celebrating the 94th and 20th anniversary, you could also say the “birthday” of our parish church. Please come with your families to our community event after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, September 23rd.

This year’s celebration will be a free BBQ with entertainment for children and adults. Don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item for the Parkdale Food Bank and a patio chair! Get ready to spend a lovely afternoon with friends old and new.

Ministry Prayer Retreat

September 29th 9:30 am up to the end of the 5 pm Mass

You have likely read in the bulletin about St. George's parish focus on evangelism and prayer. The first event geared toward this theme will be a guided retreat on Saturday, September 29, 2018 for all parish and ministry leaders. As a valued member of our parish leadership, we hope you will attend.

The retreat will begin at 9:30 am in our parish hall. Coffee, lunch and an afternoon snack will be provided, and the retreat will end at 6 pm after we attend together the Vigil Mass.

As Msgr. Hans noted in the July 22/29 parish bulletin, "The renovated church is an opportunity to renew how we worship and pray in our church, as a community and in private prayer, with music and in silence.  This is a great opportunity to rediscover St. George's Church as a sacred space and as our spiritual home. I encourage all our parishioners and friends to join this discovery."

An ad hoc committee on evangelism (see below) has chosen the topic of prayer, in all its forms, as the necessary first step in parish evangelization.  A pew survey prior to the leader retreat will ask all parishioners about current prayer habits (i.e. our baseline), and a summary of that survey will be available at the retreat.  The retreat will include discernment, prayer and group discussion.

Your participation as one of our parish ministry leaders is important to the success of this initiative. Please book September 29th on your calendar.

We look forward to seeing you there!
