First Vespers for the Solemnity of The Immaculate Conception

We are honouring Our Blessed Mother Mary on the eve of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception by singing Vespers this Sunday, Dec. 7 at 6:30-7:15 PM in St. George’s church.

Vespers, or Evening Prayer, is an important part of the Catholic Church's official daily prayer, the Liturgy of the Hours.  It is one of the oldest Christian liturgical traditions, with origins tracing back to Jewish evening prayer.  The service includes chanted psalms, a hymn, a reading from scripture, a canticle from the Gospel (the Magnificat), and prayers.

Fun fact: The term "vespers" comes from the Latin word for "evening" and literally means "lamp lighting time," referring to when lamps were lit as darkness fell.

Singers are gathering beforehand at 5PM in the church to rehearse the chants. All are welcome to drop in and learn with us.  Printed programs will be provided.
